A Little More Each Day

One working mama learning to run & to maintain my 100+ pound weight loss!

Friday Favorites: Travel Day!

on June 12, 2015

Send Oliver and I good vibes today! We’re up super early for a 6 am flight to Indianapolis to visit friends. Darrell’s weekend off by himself is his Father’s Day gift this year. He’ll miss us, I’m sure, but will enjoy the sleeping in, endless pizza and video games for hours.

I'm always amazed at how well he does with super early wake ups for flights!

Meg is one of the awesome ladies in my Lovely Ladies Losing It Facebook group (I know I’m a broken record, but every one of these ladies rocks!) and this week she had a great post that should be required reading for all of us who are anxious about breaking out the swimsuits in the warmer weather and the struggles of covering the areas we’re self conscious about versus containing all that needs to be anatomically contained – check it out here. I was alternately cheering and laughing and totally sympathizing with her concerns about the girls springing free (definitely a concern for me in my own tankinis). Keeping a sense of humor about bathing suits is absolutely an essential survival skill. 🙂

NSV today: Got a Diet Dr Pepper because the airport coffee is awful in Omaha and still haven't finished it even though I've had it for hours now! My switch from Diet soda to water is sticking!

This week, there was a post on Another Mother Runner from Marianne, a participant in their new marathon challenge. It talked a lot about shifting perspectives on identity using the principles in the The Beck Diet book (which is not a diet at all, more about cognitive behavior therapy approaches and I also found really useful personally). A lot of this really resonated with me as I’m finding maintaining weight loss focuses a lot more on the mental game than losing did, in a lot of ways. I highly recommend the read and look forward to hearing more from Marianne as her marathon training progresses. I also very much sympathized with her packing strategy of 95% running stuff and 5% everything else – it feels like that for me these days too.

I know I’ve held the fabulous Shelley up here as an example of the kind of maintenance I want to achieve one day, with a healthier perspective on food and activity and overall well being and yet again, I have to share with you guys a seriously grin-inducing post about finding that balance when it comes to self-image as well. Her post Getting comfy, settling in is such a great discussion of looking past the flaws we see in photos and in the mirror to focus on the more important things, like how we look happy and healthy and active – who cares what else we see? That’s the good stuff. 🙂

I hope you guys all have a good weekend! Tomorrow I’ll be re-running my review of the Oatmeal’s book for the Taking the Long Way Home book club (conveniently, I’d already reviewed this month’s book!) and I’ll talk to you again Monday with a recap of the week after Oliver and I spend the weekend exploring a new city. Indianapolis here we come!
