A Little More Each Day

One working mama learning to run & to maintain my 100+ pound weight loss!

This has to go to be my favorite moment this week:

There's something so sweet about that soft, warm baby weight cuddled against you in the morning - so glad I paused to soak it in rather than being irritated at the delay in my workout.

There’s something so sweet about that soft, warm baby weight cuddled against you in the morning – so glad I paused to soak it in rather than being irritated at the delay in my workout.

O woke up early so instead of getting out to run like I’d planned, we had some snuggle and chat time together until Darrell was up to take over supervision. After our snuggle and chat time, O was sunny and ready to face the day. Before I’m ready for it, he’s going to think he’s too cool for snuggle time with mom so I’ve got to take advantage for these times while I have them. 🙂 (I still got out to run and maximized the shortened workout time by tackling hill repeats)

Katie over at RunsforCookies is getting back on the Weight Watchers wagon this spring and has written a couple of posts that I’d highly recommend you check out if you’re interested in cleaning up your eating and losing a little weight this summer. The first, on accountability, is something that should be required reading for everyone starting a weight loss program. If you aren’t willing to be honest with yourself about how much you’re eating, you should really pause to consider why you’re “cheating” (because you’re only cheating yourself) and work on those issues. It may be the plan you’ve picked isn’t the right for you, it may be that you have mental emotional issues that need work or it may be something else entirely, but it’s definitely a slippery slope that can sabotage you in the long run.

She also has an interesting post about revisiting the habits that helped her lose 100 pounds that you can check out for more tips. Looking back at the things that helped you lose weight in the past can be really helpful because you can see what worked, what made you miserable and what would be sustainable. It’s also important to re-evaluate because the things that worked for you in the past may not work now. We all change in terms of the things going on in our lives, our interests, our motivations, our ages (and therefore our metabolisms unfortunately) – you’re not the same person now, so honestly re-evaluating what worked is important. Jennifer at RunningonLentils is going through the same thing, revisiting the strategies that work for her. Personally, I’m a big fan of pre-tracking your food if you’re on Weight Watchers. That worked really well for me! I also really like the idea of imagining a TV crew is following you around and watching you eat. I honestly try to think about Oliver watching me eat (because he is most of the time at home) and remembering that I’m modeling healthy eating for him constantly (of course, he’s not watching at night when those night time snacking urges hit, which is part of my problem).

Darrell and Oliver might have wondered why they got so many snuggles Wednesday night. It was because I’d read this post from Sheryl Sandberg about the loss of her husband. I cannot imagine what this time is like for her or anyone going through this. It makes me wants to hug Darrell and Oliver close to me and never let them go and also makes me want to hug and applaud her for being so open about her grief and her loss. I am so blessed to have my gorgeous crazy little family and hope that I can remember every day to pause and be grateful.

I hope you all have a fantastic weekend! Be sure to join us tomorrow for the monthly Coffee Date hosted by Deborah, Coco and Lynda. I promise there will be a slightly awkward running story for my part. 🙂
