A Little More Each Day

One working mama learning to run & to maintain my 100+ pound weight loss!

Friday Favorites: Really GLAD for Friday!

on September 12, 2014

This has been an exhausting week already. I know the next few weeks will be super busy, so I’m just reminding myself of my goal to be kind to myself this month. I honestly found myself thinking about how or if I should use this blog space during such a busy time. After all, I could use the 10-15 minutes I spend here to plug away a little more at my work project. Honestly, though, this space is such a relief for me and such an outlet that it’s definitely worth combining my evening stretches with some laptop time. I usually write at night about whatever has percolated through my head during the day and at this point, I’d definitely miss having this “brain dump” at the end of the day. That means that for now, blogging is a part of my stress relief during a stressful time, but if a week from now things are too busy and I’m missing for a couple of days, I know that’ll be okay too. 🙂

What's making me happy this week: Hubby just walked in to show me this baby picture of his. We have VERY few pictures of him as a kid, so this made me smile, particularly seeing O's lop sided dimple in Darrell's baby face. :)

I think that blogging can fill different needs for us at different times and it’s okay to reassess that periodically. Two of my favorite bloggers had posts on this issue this week, in which they both shared some of their reflections on the current “state of the blog” and where they were going in the future. Check out this post at Young House Love and this one on Fit and Free with Emily and send them some good vibes. I really appreciate their honesty and bravery in sharing these reflections.

I had a couple of articles flagged this week on running topics, including this one from LifeBetweentheMiles about the ways that summer running pays off when temperatures drop in the fall. I’m really looking forward to seeing the payoff of all of my hot, sweaty summer miles now that things have cooled off. For my Thursday morning run, I was actually shivering at the beginning and I was wearing pants! We’ll see how tomorrow morning’s long run feels in these cooler temps.

My race in October will definitely be in cooler temperatures and will be here before we know it! That’s probably why I found myself reading several articles about race week nutrition, including this one from Runner’s World. During one of my mental breaks at work, I’ll have to scope out somewhere to get a good pre-race dinner when I’m in Des Moines for the race! I’m open to suggestions!

What's making me happy this week: My flowers from my Labor Day race still going strong on my desk at work! It's been a grey week, so these have brought much needed cheer to my work day.

Any big plans this weekend? We’re taking O to the children’s theater for the first time. We’ll be seeing “The Very Hungry Caterpillar”. I’ll let you know how it goes! Cross your fingers for us!

  3. Wow! Thank you for sharing those equally honest and beautiful posts. I truly appreciate their candor and I can definitely relate. Between the struggles to lose weight and the purpose and goals for your blog; I’ve been there! I often go back and forth about what I want my blog to be. Much like you said, it would be so easy to use the time I blog to do something else (and sometimes, like last night, I do), but I do truly enjoy it. I love writing, I love interacting with people online, and I love the outlet and accountability that the blog provides. I hope the next few weeks go as smoothly as possible for you! Your husband’s baby picture is adorable! I definitely see a resemblance to your little guy! So glad you still have those lovely flowers on your desk for a touch of sunshine, too! 🙂

    • It be so hard to balance the expectations of your audience, especially as your blog becomes bigger and a real business entity, with your own needs as a writer. It makes me glad that I’m small and personal. 🙂
