Friday Favorites: Loving yourself!

on September 5, 2014

I know we’ve all read lots of “love your body” posts and just when I think it’s all the same, I come across something that still has the power to make me smile and feel motivated to do better for myself. I absolutely love the idea that your body is your paintbrush, not your masterpiece. We should take care of our bodies because we use them to do so many wonderful things. Yes, that means we put in some good work to take those bodies but that isn’t the work that’s the most important – it’s all of the other things that are important!

He is definitely one of the best parts of my masterpiece :)

He is definitely one of the best parts of my masterpiece πŸ™‚

This idea clearly is resonating with me this week, as several of the other articles I had flagged as “loves” were about loving and accepting the bodies we have, as they are. As someone who has struggled with a pair of tight jeans earlier this month, Katie’s post about a new clothing size was exactly what I needed to read. Who cares what the tag on your clothes says, if you look and feel healthy. πŸ™‚ She looks great (and I’m sure my husband can empathize with her husband Jerry, who has listened to lots of angsting over clothes!).

Janae’s post about the last 5 pounds had a great bit of perspective as well: 1) Are you eating healthily? 2) Are you exercising enough? 3) Are you getting enough sleep and drinking enough water? If we can answer yes (mostly) to those things, we’re doing pretty good so let’s all resolve to cut ourselves a little slack this weekend. These articles were exactly what I need during a month where I’ve set a goal to be kind to myself. πŸ™‚

Have a great weekend everyone!

That is such a cool idea that our bodies are paintbrushes rather than the masterpieces! I’ve never seen it that way but it makes so much sense.

    • It’s definitely a much more positive way to look at our bodies than we normally default to. I had to remind myself of this in a yoga class this weekend, where my shirt would pull up and bare my loose belly to the world.
