A Little More Each Day

One working mama learning to run & to maintain my 100+ pound weight loss!

Weekly Wrap-Up: New Long Run & Disney mail

on December 15, 2013

It feels like it has been such a chaotic week! I had several big runs to get in, super cold weather to work around (meaning lots of treadmill time), a work party and a dead oven. Honestly, the dead oven is the most stressful. Most of go to dinners and snacks involve the oven. I was also planning on baking this weekend for our neighborhood cookie exchange next Tuesday but instead I’ll be doing almond bark coated marshmallows on pretzel sticks, like little lollipops, that O can sprinkle and decorate for me. I’ll be sure to share pictures!

I had a work party at the zoo and learned that penguins like this guy apparently really like sparkly things. I had on white pants and a white sequined top with a red sweater (very festive and very much braver than anything I’d have worn before weight loss!). When I came over to see the penguin, he waddled right over to say hi. Very cute and a lot more fun than the other “zoo ambassadors” I’ve encountered before.

imageThis week’s workouts:

Monday: Rest day (unintentionally – worked too late to get the run in!)

Tuesday: 4.5 miles on the treadmill due to the cold and the road conditions – hard to make myself get started I felt great after!

Wednesday: 50 minutes walking (cross training)

Thursday: 4.5 miles on the treadmill

Friday: Rest day to get ready for a weekend full of runs!

Saturday: 7 miles on the treadmill – I planned to do this outside, but my park was still icy and it was really windy. It should be warming up (relatively anyway) so I can do more outside next week. Despite my gym bag fail, this run actually felt fairly easy. Good sign right? Also I tried the salted caramel Gu for the first time – delicious!

Sunday: I plan to make up for a week full of workouts without any scenery or fun pictures by running my first Ugly Sweater run at 11 am (and get my last 3 mile run in for the week!). I’ll share pictures tomorrow! My goal for this run, rather than a specific time or pace, is to just relax and enjoy myself and take lots of pictures!

Non-Scale Victory   This weekend I actually sort of checked something off of my list of reasons I wanted to lose weight. My husband was picking O up and swinging him in a circle and O then asked “Daddy swing mommy”. D picked me up and swung me around like it was no big deal. I was terrified and self-conscious of just how heavy I used to be, but apparently I am now pick-up-able by my husband. Who knows – being carried up the stairs like Rhett Butler and Scarlett O’hara may be in my future one day after all! (Just kidding honey)

Disney Mail On Saturday, we got a package in the mail with Mr. Incredible on the envelope and I immediately knew what that meant! We got information about our upcoming trip and about setting up our FastPass+ selections on December 23 (which will be 60 days out from arrival!). I know the FastPass+ system is under a lot of flux right now, so I wasn’t sure if we were going to be able to participate. With a toddler, I think it will help us be able to do things like the parades (without waiting forever for a spot – toddlers aren’t great at waiting!) and know that we can do Toy Story Mania (or know that we can’t, so we avoid mentioning it to him). With a two year old, we won’t be doing the kind of mad dashing around the park that could get you lots and lots of FastPasses in the old days anyway, so we won’t feel like we’re missing out on much by being limited to 3 FP+ a day. We’ve already customized our Magic Bands – I’m sure there will be more squealing at the mailbox the day those show up!

Enjoy your week! We’re getting closer and closer every day to PHM!

  1. I don’t think I’m going to get a flashdrive. I think Disney knows I already know how to do it or something so they aren’t going to send me one. jerks. :p LOL. I customized our bands as well, it will be fun when they arrive! Our FP+ day is coming up too, 8 days! I have a plan and although I’m not pleased with just 3 a day (and especially at DHS and EP where it’s really just ONE b/c the other two are worthless FP’s due to tiering) I think I at least have a decent idea of what we can do and when and it will all work out. I’m not sure many trips are in my future if the FP’s stay tiered though, I feel like one a day won’t be worth it. It will be nice not having to crisscross all over grabbing FP’s and waiting for times though! 🙂

    • The tiered fast passes would definitely be a problem for us if we were going without a toddler. On past trips, we’ve gotten far more than 3 FP a day and you’re right – those Tier 2 things are things I can’t imagine wanting a FP for anyway!

Great job on getting all those runs in, especially the long run! Being forced to do it all on the treadmill has to be completely frustrating. I don’t mind the treadmill during the week, but dang it, if I can’t run outside on Saturday I get cranky lol!!

I love your non-scale victory with your husband swinging you around. That is adorable and I am so so happy for you that you are able to feel less self-conscious ! 🙂
